i always have a lot of fun when we go to a totally different style like this stain glass inspiration for the Joan of Arc music video in Mr. Peabody and Sherman tv show, I thought the colorscript that Kevin did was beautiful and the song was also super fun to listen to :) the video came out really cool also thanks to Stephane Coedel!
Song is by: Hammered Satin - Joan of Arc
I really liked the color palette and mood in this episode that Kevin Dart colorscripted, I think we were doing a lot of bright upbeat colors for awhile on Peabody so it was a nice change to switch to a more spooky darker palette :)
ahh this was one of the hardest peabody colorscripts for me, it took a really long time.. i wanted to do a vintage kind of las vegas with gold, sometimes i think i make strange color choices because i think they’re interesting but then i have a hard time figuring a way to balance it out so it doesn’t all look so crazy lol, it took me awhile to finally finish it and i’m not sure how i feel about the colorscript now but i do think the BGs look fun
ok so this is a weird post but i really like doing the funny looking backgrounds, that castle one is like an old school CG video game bg, the one with the tree is a giant bird nest tree lol and Chris Turnham painted the little town in that bg, and here’s some other random ones with weird animals from the Mr. Peabody Sherman show :) these are not the most beautiful BGs I’ve painted but I’ll never for get them
here’s a fun colorscript and background paintings from the Mr. Peabody and Sherman TV show inspired by the 80s, this color palette came really naturally and was the fastest colorscript for me and I’m not sure why lol but other people on my team called me the 80s queen after I did this haha
compositing and effects by amazing Stephane Coedel!
T___T i missed your art so much@ i only found your instagram recently, but i'm still happy you came back to post on tumblr, haha. your colors and shapes are really beautiful; i think my fond fav is the fireplace room, you managed to make the cool colors so intense! have a good sundayyy
aw hey thats so nice of you! thank you very much im glad that you like the work ^_^ yeah i had stopped updating my tumblr and instagram for some time D: but i will try to update more now especially since i have a backlog of stuff lol, i hope you have a good weekend :)
ah haven’t posted in awhile on here =_= i’ve got a bunch of stuff to update, here’s some Mr. Peabody and Sherman tv show colorscript and background paintings from an episode about Queen Elizabeth ^_^ this was my first time handling a colorscript and it was a big learning experience, Kevin Dart did the first 5 panels in the top row and then I filled in the rest of it, I learned alot about his color sense and trying to find color palettes that fit the locations but were stylized for the show, it was pretty intense doing it for the first time but it was also really fun experience :)
this is a print i did for a sequential movie poster show at iam8bit gallery
Sylvia! I'm so blown away by your work! I want to know so much about your process, but I'll contain myself and try to keep this short! I was wondering if you could share some insight on how you pick your palette. I struggle a lot with just using local/literal colors, and I'm not sure how to break out of choosing brown for buildings, green for plants etc. Also can you share anything about the textures in your work? Are they made by your brushstrokes or do you add a texture to the piece afterward?
hi unmouse! aw thank you very much! Hmmm colors is really a hard thing, for me it’s very important to get a interesting color palette and try to come up with something new or different. actually something that helped a lot was doing film studies of different films, a lot of good films can also have great color palettes so I studied films like the good the bad and the ugly, godfather, 5th element, the graduate, Wong kar wai movies, etc, you can choose some off the top 100 movie list and that would probably be a good start. this exercise really helped me open my eyes to see different color palettes.
and I think breaking out of the colors that we are taught are standard like green grass blue sky, is about thinking that things can be any color you want. It’s like when you put a plant under a blue light in a dark room, it becomes a totally different color and it’s not just overlaying a blue color on top of a green color because eventually that gets muddy. That plant becomes its own separate color from blue and from green like maybe some kind of bright saturated blue or a desaturated teal depending on the blue light color. i think studying lighting on objects in real life also helped me alot, like painting things in different times of day.
For choosing specific color palettes like if I were to paint mountains in China or something, I do a lot of research. I love reference and I think it’s very important before starting a painting, that’s where inspiration comes from and it helps you make what you’re designing actually feel like it. I look at actual photos and see what makes it feel different from other places like specific tree types or how mountains form, and I pick and choose details and colors from there while making it my own seeing it through my eyes. Definitely always always look at reference!
I hope this answered your question and makes sense with my bad writing lol T_T I think color can become such a fun thing, it can be frustrating at first, but I hope this will help! thank you unmouse and good luck😊
BGs from Mr. Peabody and Sherman episode that is detective noir inspired with Pinkerton, this was a fun episode to paint I like this kind of genre and mood :p
